Lee Wilwerding, DVM Founder

Dr. Wilwerding earned his DVM from Iowa State University in 1994 and has worked exclusively with companion animals throughout his career. He spent three years in Maine working with an orthopedic surgeon, and has continued to develop his orthopedic surgery skills, including such procedures as fracture repair and stifle stabilization (TPLO, Tightrope and extracapsular). He also has extensive experience in emergency/trauma and soft-tissue surgery.  He likes to say the operating room is his happy place as he’s in there solely focused on helping a pet get well.

Dr. Wilwerding moved to Colorado in 1998 and founded Powers Pet Emergency Services in 2005, adding rehabilitation in 2010, and specialty care in 2015. Seeing a need for emergency services between Denver and Colorado Springs, Dr. Wilwerding opened Tri-Lakes in Monument, CO in the summer of 2019.

Outside of the hospital you’ll find him enjoying all that Colorado has offer including as many days of fresh powder as possible.

Kristen Janusz, DVM Emergency Veterinarian

Dr. Janusz was born in Pueblo and raised in Littleton, Colorado. After graduating with her master’s degree in Public Health in 1999 she moved to Washington State to work as an epidemiologist. While there, she earned her veterinary degree from Washington State University in 2005. She continued to work in both the veterinary and public heath fields until 2014 when she developed her passion for veterinary emergency medicine. Dr. Janusz is happy to be back home to be close to family and join the Powers family of practices including Tri-Lakes. In her free time, she enjoys all the outdoors has to offer and spending time with her two dogs and two cats.

On occasion a veterinarian from one of our sister hospitals will see patients at Tri-Lakes as well.
